Meet Gerline, Our New Summer VISTA Associate!

My name is Gerline Christophe I will be serving as the AmeriCorps Summer 2012 VISTA. I attend Florida Atlantic University, Honors College where I am majoring in Environmental Science with a minor in Women Studies.

Serving others has always been a part of me greatly due to my parents. They immigrated to this country from Haiti nearly 25 years ago and have always ingrained the importance of education, community, and empathy for others. Haiti’s history of triumph and devastation is a large contributor to my desire for civic engagement. The passion I have for helping others can be best illustrated by my accumulation of more than 1500 volunteer hours with various organizations in different disciplines.

My position as an AmeriCorps Summer VISTA is granting me the priviledge of combining my love of children with my passion for education through the FAU Summer Food Service Program. Serving others will be a lifelong commitment that I hope to share with many new faces along the way. I encourage everyone to volunteer their time to a cause that means something to them. Volunteer opportunites are as unique as fingerprints so please visit the Weppner Center of Civic Engagment and Service for resources.
